DESCRIPTION:Richland County Farm Bureau and Richland Soil and Water Conservation District (Richland SWCD) are hosting a joint Annual Celebration on Thurs.\, Sept. 7. The Celebration will be held at the Kehoe Center\, located at 175 Mansfield Ave. in Shelby beginning at 6 p.m.\, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. \n\n\n\nThe Celebration is open to the public and includes dinner\, guest speaker Rev. Paul Lintern\, “Richland County is Rich Land\,” awards and organization updates. The cost is $20 per person and reservations are requested by Aug. 24. Reserve your ticket below. \n\n\n\nFarm Bureau members will vote on proposed policies\, which direct the programs and activities for the upcoming year\, local trustees\, and Ohio Farm Bureau Annual Meeting delegates. \n\n\n\nThe Celebration will also commemorate Richland SWCD’s 75th year and being named Ohio’s District of the Year.  The Cooperator of the Year and Volunteer of the Year will be recognized. \n\n\n\nEligible voters may cast their vote for two open Richland SWCD Board Supervisor positions from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The candidates are Brian Alt\, Rick Novak and Greg Timberlake. SUMMARY:Volunteer of the Year Tree Planting
DESCRIPTION:Please join us as we plant a black gum tree in honor of Leonard Fox\, our volunteer of the year at Seltzer Park near the gazebo and play scape. Leonard N. Fox has been volunteering with Richland Soil and Water Conservation District since 2016. Leonard serves the district as a precipitation monitor and provides daily reports of rain and snow amounts on the  Richland Soil and Water Conservation District website. He said he volunteers with Richland Soil and Water Conservation District because the precipitation data helps others in the county make gardening\, farming\, and conservation decisions. Leonard enjoys giving back to the community. He also volunteers with the Richland Area Chamber of Commerce and is involved with the Knights of Columbus. Leonard is a retired farmer but still enjoys helping on the farm\, beekeeping\, hunting\, fishing\, and spending time with his family. He and his wife\, Kathy have two daughters\, and four grandchildren. Thank you\, Leonard\, for helping the district!

DESCRIPTION:Join Richland Soil and Water Conservation District and other community organizations at the Nature Park during the Richland County Fair. The Nature Park exhibit space will provide information and contests on a variety of topics related to nature and conservation.  \n\n\n\nOn Tuesday\, kids and families are invited to join us at 3:00 p.m. on the Nature Park stage for Conservation Storytime and activities. We’ll read The Very Hunger Caterpillar and Martha Milkweed Has No Friends. \n\n\n\nOn Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. kids age 8 to 17 will have fun exploring the Nature Park in a scavenger hunt\, plus have a chance to win great hourly prizes donated by Richland County Solid Waste Management Authority. Scavenger Hunt rules will be available on the back of the Hunt entry form. SUMMARY:Conservation Creation Arts & Crafts Workshop: Hammered Flower Notecard
DESCRIPTION:Join Richland Soil and Water Conservation District for this workshop using the natural dye from flowers to create a design on a notecard. You’ll use a hammer to transfer the dye from the flowers to the paper to create a design based on where you place your flowers.  You’ll create a beautiful notecard to keep or make someone’s day by giving them a hand-written message to go along with your hand-made notecard. All workshop supplies are furnished. Mark Hoover from Kingwood Center Gardens will provide an interesting program on\, wait for it….flowers! Parking is limited so please carpool\, if possible. Enter through the gate with the Richland Soil and Water Conservation District Event sign. The workshop is at the Education Building.
